This is a short-term forecast of the location and intensity of the aurora. This product is based on the OVATION NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center issued a severe geomagnetic storm watch for May 11. An unusual amount of solar flare activity means that the aurora borealis or the northern lights could be visible even in areas where they are not normally seen.
The aurora is expected to be visible in the northern United States and Canada tonight and tomorrow night. The best time to see the aurora is between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. local time. The aurora is forecast to be bright and active, so it should be easy to see with the naked eye.
If you are planning on seeing the aurora, be sure to find a dark location away from city lights. You will also need to be patient, as the aurora can sometimes take hours to appear.
